Reorganization of the "Propagation of the Faith"
In 1819, Pauline-Marie Jaricot, a humble worker of Lyon, started the movement of the Propagation of the Faith in France. This missionary association was already established in Canada as far back as 1833. It spread first of all to several dioceses but then began to decline due to a lack of sustained support. In 1918, Bishop Bruchési entrusted the religious family of Delia Tétreault with the task of reorganizing this association in his diocese. The Missionaries of the Immaculate Conception visited the parishes of Montreal giving conferences to hundreds of people, members of various associations and High School students. They also looked for persons who would take up the responsibility of ensuring the success and continuity of the association in their respective milieus. Delia, herself, went from one diocese to another to visit most of the bishops of the Province for the purpose of getting them interested in the movement and reviving it. |
